BlurXTerminator 2.0 AI Version 4 Released

BlurXTerminator 2.0 AI 4

I’ve been enjoying Russ Crowman’s (RC Astro) astrophotography processing tools since his release of GradientXTerminator many years ago. Now, one of his most popular astrophotography image processing tools has received an impressive upgrade: BlurXTerminator 2.0 AI Version 4.

While I am excited to use and share my experiences with this handy new tool myself, I’ll leave it to Adam Block, and the author himself to describe the biggest differences between the earlier version and this one.

The latest version of BlurXTerminator (BXT) improves upon the original version, in terms of the accuracy of the deconvolution at all brightness levels, and expands the range of optical aberration corrections BXT can handle. As Russ explains in the video, the original version of the tool could correct simple aberrations such as coma, but the new version was designed to handle a much larger range of star issues.

One of the improvements that I am most interested in, is that it can now handle dense star fields, such as a globular cluster. Historically, this has been a difficult task to perform for any image-editing tool, and I am amazed at how well BlurXTerminator 2.0 was able to process the example images on Russ’ website.

This tool can be used with the PixInsight Image Processing Software, by navigating to Resources > Updates > Check for Updates. I am excited to re-process some old image data with poor-quality stars to see if this tool to revive it!
